3-legged Jack and family
It's been 3 months since Jack joined the family and I thought you'd like to hear about our wonderful friend. Jack made himself right at home from the moment he arrived and is just a happy-go-lucky guy. He loves to follow us around and be everywhere we are. He especially loves to be outside with us, playing ball or lounging in the grass. He tries to chase bees and an occasional squirrel but (luckily for us) hasn't caught any yet. One of Jack's favorite games is "Keep Away," where he grabs someone's sock or sneaker and runs around the house with it! He loves to be chased and eventually gives up his possession. He still enjoys a good game of "Tug-of-War" too. Jack is very intelligent and has figured out what to do/not do by just watching what goes on. He no longer tries to sleep on the furniture, but will lie across your lap if you sit on the floor. He knows to lie at the bottom of the steps in the morning and get a belly rub from everyone who passes by. Jack loves to sit at the table when we eat but then lays down without begging for anything. Please thank the people in Kentucky for taking such good care of Jack until he could find his way to our home and hearts. We absolutely love him and have enjoyed spoiling him with love and attention (as well as an occasional rawhide).
Thanks for everything,
Debbie, Bill, Mike, and Jack

Abbott and family
Abbott must be feeling pretty comfortable because he nabbed a few slices of cheese off the kitchen table while nobody was looking. COUNTER SURFING!!!! I'm glad he's so relaxed and happy here, but no more of that. He is SUCH A JOY and we are truly loving having him in our family. My husband John has had recent surgery and will have to follow up with chemotherapy, and still, walking Abbott is one of his great joys. Everybody who meets our fella is just in love with him. This is what you call a perfect match. We can't thank you enough. Kathleen.

Allie and family
Allie is wonderful. She is the best dog! We just love her. Allie had surgery to remove a cyst recently and will get the stitches out on Mon., 9/25. The surgery site had to be drained once, so now she is bandaged and wears a T-shirt. She doesn’t mind the T-shirt. She has free run of the house because when we first had to leave her alone, we put her in the laundry room and she opened the gate 3 times to get to her bed. So, we just let her go. She is an excellent watch dog too. |

Artie and family
Thanks for your note. Artie is a WONDERFUL dog and has really stolen our hearts and the heart of everyone who meets him. He is settling in beautifully, is very sweet and loving, unbelievably well trained, and seems quite happy here in his new home. He and the cat even get along just fine! With time, he has gotten less and less anxious---he initially was quite panicked when we would go out for a bit---but he is much more relaxed now and is content to sleep on the couch until we get home. He is a rather finicky eater, but after trying a few different wet and dry foods, we have found some healthy ones that he likes. He was quite thin when we got him, but he has put on a few pounds and the vet said he is now really the perfect weight. We couldn't have asked for a better dog---so unbelievably sweet! Thanks for checking in with us. |

Aspen and family
All is wonderful with Aspen. She is a blessing to our family and she is getting along well with my other two girls/dogs. Aspen is unbelievably sweet and loving and just adores us. (And we adore her.)
Aspen became one of "our girls" the moment we saw her and now I can't imagine live without her. Our girls are everything to us, and I think we have become everything to her.
Thank you for reaching out to us to see how our girl is doing. We love her more than words can say. |

Beethoven and family
Beethoven is doing just fine - very much part of the family now! Beethoven and his step-sister, McKenzie are very happy with each other. They've recently started getting quite a bit more playful - I think a sign of B's getting more comfortable with being part of the family (and of McKenzie starting to get over the loss of the "love of her life", Skye, who passed on in February).
No real issues with Beethoven - he's really a happy, relatively well-behaved and funny little guy!
Thanks again for checking! We were very very pleased with Rogers Rescues and have been recommending y'all to friends who are interested in getting dogs (don't worry, only the ones who would make good parents!).

Bits and family
He is doing great! He has made himself right at home. Since he is
always so happy - I decided to name him Happy. He has been to the vet
already and will be going back in November for his last distemper
shot, etc. The cats are getting along with him (or should I say
tolerating him). He's my joy and yes he has the run of the house &
us. I don't know how I survived before him. He's playful, likes to
take long walks since there are little to no cars or people out - just
me & him. My parents love having him around and I know he's keeping
them young (mom takes him out & he follows her from room to room when
she's working around the house).
Thanks again - he is so my baby. |

Buzz and family
Buzz, now known as Jack, is the sweetest, most affectionate dog anyone could want! At first he was afraid of many situations, and walking with him in our neighborhood was hard. He's always been well-behaved inside and when he's alone with us, and the training we're doing is helping him get over the fears.
The following story demonstrates what a special dog he is, and every word of it is true. I swear. The first time Jack met my friend Martha, she broke into tears when she was leaving our house and admitted, "I just want a dog like him, he's so wonderful." Her father was terminally ill at the time, and over the next few weeks she told him stories of Jack's antics, and when he asked for me to bring Jack for a visit I agreed (with trepidation-I had no idea how he'd behave). 3 months went by, and there never seemed to be a time that was good for them to have him visit, and then one day in mid-July Martha called and asked if I could bring him over-right then. I dropped everything and took Jack to visit, wondering all the way whether he'd be calm enough for this to work. He'd never been to visit a friend's house, never been around a hospital bed-there were endless possibilities for mayhem. Well, it was a triumph. Jack jumped up on the bed next to the hospital bed, and sat quietly where her father could watch him. While we all talked, her father just looked at Jack and smiled. The next day, he slipped into a coma and his death followed several days later. We all agreed it was as if he'd been waiting to meet Jack.
If I had the money, I'd buy her Idiot's Guide as a gift for everyone who adopts thru Roger's Rescues.
Lastly, if you ever have would-be rescuers who want to be in touch with someone who has been through the process, I'd be happy to talk with them. I feel that we've known more about Jack, his history and behaviors than any other dog we've had, because RR was interested in finding the right home, not just placing him with a willing body.
Thanks so much for the work you do.

Cappuccino and family
Cappuccino, now named Zola, is doing really well. He has adjusted to life in our busy household. We are still working on jumping and barking, but seemed to have worked out everything else. Zola's favorite time (other than his morning walk) is story time when we're putting the kids to bed. He likes to come listen too! Thanks for all of the work that you do. |

Cassie and family
I know anyone whom has every adopted a dog probably thinks there dog is the best- well- everyone else is wrong- I have the best. I recently adopted Cassandra- we call her Cassie. I really don't know where to start- she is just such a love. I have 2 Papillion’s and the have grown to accept Cassie. I love watching them run in the yard chasing each other- it is like they flow together. my friends 5 year old recently met Cassie and did not want to go home- she want to stay and play with Cassie- I'm sure Cassie would have kept on playing as well. Thanks to all who were apart of my experience with Rogers Rescue – ESPECIALLY Tami. (Cassie says Hello and sends her love!) The experience was so professional I have done nothing but talked about Cassie and the experience at work- in fact a few people at work are looking into adopting now. In addition I intend on joining the group as a volunteer. Well I can't say enough about this team nor 'my girl' Cassie! Thanks for helping her find her way to our home and hearts!

Chloe and family
I wanted to drop you a quick line to say "Hi" and to let you know how very happy we are with Chloe as part of our family. She has been a DREAM dog!!!! She has really adapted nicely and continues to bring us much joy every day. She is as lovable as ever, always at my side and always ready to snuggle once I sit down and get settled. I am always amazed how truly excited she gets when Tim comes home from work at the end of the day. She is eating well (gaining about 10 pounds since you saw her last) and enjoying playing with her brother Moose. Things have calmed down between them considerably. I think a lot of this improvement was made on Moose's part. He finally gets it that it's not a bad thing that Chloe is here, and I think his jealousy subsides a little more every day. We really count ourselves blessed that we found Chloe through Rogers’ Rescues. Other than her occasional drool, her never-ending shedding, and her love of hoarding bones and toys from her brother, we have no complaints.
We had 2 different people pet sitting when we went on vacation in early July and everyone raved about what a great dog Chloe was!!
So, I just wanted to let you know that Chloe has a home for life and that she is doing really well with us.
Hope all is well with you and that others are having similar success with the dogs they find through Rogers’.
Take care,
Jim

Costello and family
Just want to let you know that Costello is doing just fine. His weight
is fine, I assume he was a few pounds lighter during his adjustment
period here but he is eating well and looking good. He loves to go for
car rides and runs for the door whenever he sees us putting our coats
on! He has no problem with the stairs but only goes to the bedrooms at
night to sleep. He definitely is a people doggy and loves to be
wherever we are!
You were right about chasing those bunnies! One night while walking him
he slipped out of my hands and went full tilt for a bunny! Luckily he
came back rather quickly but now I wrap the leash around twice while
walking, he's stronger and faster than he looks!
So things are going well and he is very comfortable in our home.
Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Daisy and family
Daisy is excellent. We all love her. We did some training with Lynn Eckhardt, a local dog trainer, and she did great. Lynn said she was a textbook student. Daisy is about as high energy as they come but she's a good match for us since we're an active family. I'm a marathon runner and she loves to go running with me and I enjoy her company. You could not have found us a sweeter dog. |

Davis and family
Let's see where to start....We love, love, love this dog. Not only is he an absolutely stunning dog, but what a lover he is! He loves, people, other dogs, kids, older people, men, woman etc. you name it and he kisses them! We have a large extended family and entertain a lot, there are lots of cousins, nieces, nephews etc that come over and they ALL love Koda (Davis). He adores the kids and is incredibly gentle with our daughter who will be turning one in just a few days.
He is very smart and eager to please. He trained on our electric fence in one hour and has enjoyed the run of the entire 1 & 1/2 acre property since his arrival. Although his foster family told us he wasn't much of a hunter, he has learned very quickly from our other 2 dogs (a 15 year old Golden Retriever mix and a 4 year old Shepard Lab mix) how to chase chipmunks, squirrels, dear, etc., and loves to romp outside most of the day. He is the first one to arrive at the door when called inside and although we didn't do any training sessions with him, he has picked up all the commands from just watching our other dogs.
We have not had any training issues with him at all. He knows which toys are his and which ones are the babies; he has never had an accident in the house, never chewed anything other than his bones or kongs etc. For a 1 year old dog he is very well behaved! I think our 2 other dogs keep him quite busy wrestling and running in the woods so he is happy and content.
He is a happy, loving, well adjusted dog who fits into our family perfectly. I have to say out of our three dogs he is our daughters favorite, she just cant get enough of his kisses!!! I know there were quite a few applications for him and we are so happy we were the ones chosen to be his family, he truly brightens my day each morning with a kiss before I even fully open my eyes. Job well done on your part rescuing him, he is a keeper!!

He loves his walks and lying on the deck in the sun, but most of all, he loves snuggling with us. We are delighted with him and feel so lucky to have him. Junior and his family
Good morning hope that your night and morning was as great as ours!!!! Our ride home was perfect! Jr. was great I actually think he enjoyed the ride and no puke!!! When we got home he went for a little walk around our home and in the woods and then inside to investigate Interesting fact, he walks around the downstairs of the house, he walks around the second story of the house however, we have not been able to get him to the upstairs yet (we live in a split level 4 stairs from the ground level then another 4 stairs to the top level where the bedrooms are) so he chose to sleep in the play room last evening, the kids where bummed but we'll try again today. Then after we hung out in the house for a bit, we went for a walk in the neighborhood and visited friends, he healed well and actually sat when we came to an intersection to cross. The house we stopped at has 4 kids, the youngest 12 weeks then a 18 month and then Eric & Lexis two friends, Jr. sat down like a gentleman and all the kids circled him loving him and he was great esp with the 18 month old, gentle as could be! Then back to our house. After he ate he was a load and rested and then when he had to go out he went right to the door to go out and knew exactly where to go
This morning he did seem stiff when getting up but he's been up for about 3 hours now and seems to be moving fine. Last night we had a deer on the patio and Jr. barked to protect us, it was great! And this morning Larry came downstairs and he growled at him, again great!! Larry didn't come home last night till about 8 so they only spent about 1hr. together, I love that he is going to protect us. Larry and I keep saying that we're afraid that he's too good to be true!! Sweet, beautiful, loving, and good!!! Thanks for the pics. I can't thank you enough. We really enjoyed our visit yesterday you’re a great lady and your dogs are all wonderful! There should be more people like you in the world. Talk to you soon!

Kizzie Lee and family
Kizzy Lee is now known as "Nicki" and she is doing great! She got her name from my 8 yr old son: his best friend has a dog named "Penny" and all he wanted to do was name her "Nickel". So, Nicki was a compromise!
She bonded to us very well right from the start. Everyone is amazed at what s sweet gentle thing she is. My 2 cats are doing very well with her too. One is actually marking her with his scent (by rubbing up against her) so I think he likes her. The other is a bit more tentative, but she does well too.
Nicki has a few good dog friends too. Her best pal is her neighbor Keano (who is a big golden retiever). Nicki likes to nip his ears when they play, even though he is about 4 times her size. She has a few dog friends her age and size nearby too, Towzer and Zoe. Towzer has a huge fenced-in yard, and his owner allows Nicki to play there whenever she wants. She chases Towzer until he begs for mercy (Nicki is as fast as a Greyhound!).
She loves to cuddle too. She has spent the night at my friend's house twice when we were away, and she worked her way into their bed at night! She is comfortable wherever she goes.
So, to sum it up, she is doing great! I can't imagine not having her in our lives!

Lexi is the love of my life, basically. She is so loving, so beautiful. Her incredible needyness doesn't really bother us - because we like being needed. Everyone in our neighborhood is in love with her. it's like as soon as she meets people, they fall in love. We are so happy with her...just beginning to work a little on the way sheis so jealous of any attention we pay toward thome. She is getting a little better about sitting and waiting her turn. I'm going to try to attach a picture of Lexi. Thanks again for all you do and did for lexi. |

Lulu and her new family
Lulu has settled into our household very well. She came to us a very scared and submissive little girl. Now her Border Collie has come out, and she is still a sweetheart, but a bit more feisty. When she first came, she had several weeks of digestive problems. We changed foods, changed vets, re-administered Panacur, antibiotics, Flagyll. Finally things calmed down. She still has a sensitive stomach, so she mostly just eats her Kibble with occasional treats of whole wheat bread, a piece of apple or carrot here and there.
Another challenge had been getting her to walk well on the leash. She pulled and pulled and pulled. She takes off after bunnies and squirrels. But I am happy to report, that this problem is getting under control. We started using a flex leash, and this gives her enough freedom to do her sniffing and flushing that is part of her Spaniel heritage. She has now learned to "WAIT" at street corners until it is safe to cross. The best accomplishment is that she now can go off the leash when we are hiking in safe parks and woods. We go to Ramapo County Reservation regualarly where she encouneteres many dog friends to chase and play with. Then we go back into the woods, and she trots ahead of me, always staying in sight or close to me. When we go hiking together, she and I are both in our own little nirvana. She gets to expresss her doggie essence, and I get a hiking companion.
We love Lulu and she loves us. She goes for rides with me in the car. She jumps right into the back seat, and curls up if the ride is long. She went to Vermont with us for the week end, staying in a motel with excellent behavior. She and I go on many long walks. We do a special walk once or twice a week, and about 1 1/2- 2 hours of walks a day. Lulu is lucky, because she is not home alone longer than 3-4 hours at a stretch. We are three adults in our household, so people are always coming and going.
Lulu gets along great with our two cats. She keeps trying to entice them to play, and sometimes they chase each other up and down the steps. The cats have adapted to her (thank goodness!) and have their safe spots which are any place off the floor and out on a little terrace. So there is peaceful coexistence. Everyone sleeps together in the family den, the cats on the bed, Lulu on her LL Bean bed next to my side of the bed on the floor.
Lulu also gets along great with all our guests; she is a great party dog. When we walk, she knows who likes dogs and calls them to her with her Border Collie laser-like stare. Lulu gets to socialize with other dogs regularly. She does great at the dog run, chasing dogs who are chasing balls until she exhausts herself,
All in all, Lulu is a success story. I have wanted a dog my entire life, and I couldn't have gotten a better dog. And my husband says the same. We can't undertand how she came to be a stray. It is obvious that someone took a lot of time with her teaching her to respond to commands, and socializing her with children. Did she get lost or run away? I can't imagine that someone would dump her. She is a fabulous dog. Everyone who mets her loves her and says how pretty she is.
Here is a picture of us on vacation in Maine. Lulu still is camera shy, so the pictures aren't the best, but she really enjoyed Maine and travelling around with us all day. Every time we stopped, there was some new adventure for her.
All the best to you great guys at Roger's Rescue. I sing your praises all the time.

Mathilda and family
Tillie is a sweetheart! She is the fourth rescue we have adopted. For reasons unknown, we have always adopted older dachshunds. Mathilda was listed as part dachs due to her long body, but when I first met her I doubted she had any dachs in her (Border Collie and Petite Basset Griffon Vendéen?) She has broken us as a strictly doxie household and quickly become a member of the family.
Our two other dogs are both over ten, but the little guy can give Tille and run for the money when they play. The kids love her -- except when she chews their books and toys, something we are having a hard time breaking. We do however tell the kids that if they don't put their toys away that Tillie will chew them so it sometimes works as a motivator to get the kids to pickup after themselves. The kids call her Silly Tillie and love chasing her and being chased -- everyone has a lot of fun.
We’re convinced she was someone's pet as she learned the basic commands pretty quickly. My parents live with us and Tillie barks at both of them (more so my mother) leaving us to believe she lived with an older couple where the woman may have been a bit abusive. Who knows....
Roger's is the third rescue group we have adopted through and by far the most organized. We are always amazed at what you folks do...never mind the sacrifice of time and money, but the emotional contributions as well. People think we are nuts to have three dogs and three kids and, well they are right, but we felt so incredibly good about sharing our home with a puppy mill rescue and later a 14 year-old blind owner surrender. Loosing them was really hard, but knowing that we were able to provide a loving home for them helped to offset the grief. If we didn't have kids, we would probably have fosters living here as well.

Mattie and family
Maddie has won our hearts already...I t hought I would just hang around the house with her until she got to know us...BUT...I had to go to the hardware store to get glue to patch our waterbed...thought about leaving her home but decided against it...she got righ in the truck...was a perfect lady in the hardware store...took a long walk in Lambertville...she still does not do this automatically but she did stop when told and sat at each corner until I said OK to go into the street...she is so smart...
We stil have so much work to do outside I felt guilty not helping....so...we wlaked the perimeter of the yard a few times and then she went out into the field with us while we planted the iris' and dug holes for the trees coming on Fri...she did not bother the horse shit...HOORAY...
she has come face to face with 2 of the cats...the goats, horse, emu, guinea hen and ducks this afternoon....so much for a quiet day in the house!!!!
When I put her in the truck in the hardware store parking lot there was a man in the car next to us...after I closed the door and started walking to my side he said..."Boy she doesn't let you out of her sight!!!" that man made my day....right now she is under the desk whle I am writing you...except when Gil came upstiars, she ran out to see him..a few kisses on his hands while he was petting her...
sorry to be so lengthy...I guess I just wanted you to know she has won our hearts (I keep staring at her beautiful face) and we think she is happy here...
Our daughter also came to meet her today...our son is in Wisconsin this week so we
e mailed him a photo.......
Your Maddie seems comfy cozy and we will take the very best care of her....our Maddie now!!!!
vet appt on Fri...
thank you for all the kindness and support you have offered.. |

Thank you for your email! We are so happy with Morris – I can’t even tell you enough! He has been such a wonderful pup. It’s only been 3 months but it feels like we’ve had him forever. He has settled right in with us in our home. He loves everyone in his new family and they love him too. He has been learning to walk nicely on a leash (still needs some practice when there are distractions) :o) He LOVES to play with his toys and other doggie playmates too.
We are so grateful for what Rogers’ Rescues does and are constantly sharing our story about how we adopted Morris with other people. We rave so much about Morris and tell everyone that they should rescue too – it’s the best way to go and everyone at Rogers’ Rescues has been so, so nice and have such BIG hearts!!

Paige is a wonderful dog and quickly won our hearts. She acts a little “goofy” at times and sometimes sleeps on her back with all four paws sticking up in the air. We think she is doing it to get our attention.
Paige is a very smart dog, she listens very well and has never had an accident in our house. Our youngest son, Barry just loves Paige. They are always together when he is home.
Initially, Paige had a little difficulty adjusting to our cat, but now they play and lie down together, rub noses and get along very well.

Peanut and family
Peanut and Oits are doing great. Peanut (little napoleon) asserted herself as Alfa over poor Otis from day one. Otis just hates it when Peanut gets mad at him, and will walk around with his ears down, and all sad. Otis doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He is such a sensitive dog, and even when our daughter Casey gets in trouble for something, Otis mopes around like Eeyore till things return to normal! My husband calls the two Happy & Grumpy.
Peanut loves her walks. She bounces up and down the street with Casey like she is the princess of all.
Otis is the ultimate protector. Being part Pyrenees and Shepard, his guarding instinct is incredible. He is ALWAYS at the window, or begging to be outside guarding his grounds & flock.
Otis & Peanut really love each other, one is always looking for the other, and they wait for each other before going outside.

She is a little shy with men/boys, but getting better.

Riley and family
Riley is doing wonderful! He is such an awesome dog. He has bonded so well and if you didn't know that we adopted him, you'd think he has been here forever.
He has adjusted really well here. He has the best manners I have ever seen and he brings so much love to our family. I can't imagine ever being without him.
He sleeps with his mommy, of course, and he loves my kids. He wasn't so sure about them at first because I don't think he had ever been around them, but now he adores them and helps me wake them up in the morning.
He is so spoiled and such a Mama's boy. He get's toys and treats everytime I go to the store. He loves his babies (toys)!
All in all I can't imagine ever having a better dog. He is the best and we love him soooo much! Thanks for all you do and for allowing us to give Riley a home. He's the best thing that has happened to us!

Rufus and family
Things are going very well with Rufus. He's just a great dog. We can't believe he was a stray just a few short months ago. He's easy to train and just so lovable!
He finished his obedience training. He did really well. His trainer recommended an intermediate or advanced course if we want to continue. Frankly he's so easy to train I think we can do it ourselves now that we've seen how it's done.
He's a great fit for our lifestyle. The kids get along great with him. He's playful and gets along wonderfully with the other dogs in our neighborhood. He likes to play fetch in the tennis courts or go to the dog park. He comes to soccer games and brings my daughter to the bus stop. I have nothing but good things to say about Rufus!

Thanks for the follow-up on Snickers. He is a great dog.

Stuart and family
Stuart is doing great; he is a joy every day. He adjusted very quickly and gets around everywhere with little to no problem. He has lots of friends, both canine and human. Everything is going fine, we haven’t had any problems or issues at all. Stuart is a wonderful little guy, we just love him! Thanks for checking. |

Teddy and family
Teddy is doing great and he is very much a part of our family. He is very obedient, loves people (with the exception of some men) and we could not be happier. My daughter calls him Teddy Spaghetti and he greets her everyday when she gets off the school bus. He is just adorable and when we go away we have a list of people who offer to take him for a long weekend etc. because he is such a little well behaved gentlemen.
Thanks for keeping up with your adoptions...

Zoey and family
Well summer has come to an end. Zoey and Belle made it through without ONCE getting in the pool. The two of them played and chased and pulled and tugged at each other most of the summer.
Zoey goes for 2 LONG walks everyday and usually one short one at night. She is hardly ever by herself.
She has fit in nicely. She even lays outside with Lucky in the sun.
She will have the opportunity to share all of the our celebrations next year. She is a wonderful addition to our family.
