Ghost was a very special little puppy who had a rough start to life. He was found wandering in a West Virginia neighborhood in West Virginia, having just escaped from a home that had a long history of neglect and abuse.
Fortunately he w as lucky enough to be rescued by some wonderful people who thought he deserved a second chance at life. Little did everyone know how much he was going to have to fight for that second chance.
Ghost managed to escape from a life of abuse and neglect, but not before damage had been done. When Ghost was found by his rescuers, they noticed he was only using three legs. They knew that any home or rescue that took him in would face expensive vet bills and the possibility of dealing with his leg being amputated.
Rogers' Rescues felt that they were able to handle the medical needs of this very special guy who had already gone through so much at such a young age. So he was added to a transport which would bring him to Pennsylvania to start his new life.
Ghost arrived late on Saturday night and into the arms of his loving foster home. While in his new home, his foster mom guessed that his leg injury was a result of being kicked. She observed that when one of her children kicked a ball, Ghost ran and hid in fear.
Yet his leg injury was the least of his worries. Ghost became very sick and probably would have died if not for the dedication of his foster mom, who luckily happened to also be a vet assistant. She hooked up an IV in her house to give him fluids and nursed him night and day.
It was touch and go for a few days, but Ghost was not ready to give up. He miraculously pulled through it all with the help of the amazing people at Alpha Vet Care in New Jersey. But Ghost's plight was not over--even though he had overcome so much, his leg was still a problem.
A vet consultation confirmed the fact that Ghost would need to have his leg amputated. His shoulder had been shattered and the nerve had been severed, which meant he would never regain use of that leg. If his leg was not amputated, it would be prone to infection since he was not capable of feeling pain in the leg.
Surgery was scheduled to remove his leg and Ghost pulled through with flying colors. In only a few days after surgery, Ghost was romping about as if nothing had happened. Since he had not used the amputated leg for quite some time, Ghost had no problem adjusting to life with only three legs.
Shortly after Ghost healed after surgery, he found his forever home with the most amazing family. They had recently lost their dog to illness and had met Ghost while he was being treated at the vet. They immediately fell in love, went through the Rogers' adoption process, and adopted this special little boy. We could not have asked for a happier ending to the story for this special little boy!
